A former Waverly police officer who is now a business owner and his associates face serious allegations in a federal indictment that was recently released. The indictment documents are available only to the Guardian.
The first count of the indictment says that former police officer Mark Anglemyer and associates Arin Sodaro, Heather Howell, and Blake Mankin distributed cocaine and anabolic steroids throughout the region between October 2020 and May 2024.
According to Count 2, Anglemyer allegedly distributed anabolic steroids in March 2022. Counts 3 and 4 assert that Howell distributed anabolic steroids in July of the same year. According to Count 5, Sodaro used the United States Postal Service to send money from Ohio to California in November 2022 for the purpose of laundering money.
Conspiracy to Use a Communication Facility in the Commission of a Drug Felony, Money Laundering, two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Anabolic Steroids, and Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Anabolic Steroids are the four charges against them in total.
The subjects are also being pursued by the Department of Justice for the forfeiture of money and property.
As per authorities, the case originates from an extended government examination. According to people familiar with the situation, this is a component of a much larger criminal enterprise. Following multiple raids on various locations, some of which were allegedly drug stash houses, the suspects were all arrested yesterday in Pike County.
According to the records of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy, Anglemyer began his career in law enforcement in 2005 as an auxiliary officer for the Waverly Police Department and the Piketon Police Department. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as a part-time deputy for the Pike County Sheriff's Office. From 2007 to 2011, he worked as a part-time police officer in Piketon. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as an auxiliary officer for the Oak Hill Police Department. From 2013 to 2016, he worked as a part-time officer for the Waverly Police Department.
Anglemyer entered the food service industry after leaving the police force. Before opening an Italian restaurant with two of his associates in Ashland, Kentucky, he initially worked as a local food vendor. Social media posts indicate that the Lupo Nero Italian Cuisine restaurant has not yet opened and was still under construction at the time of Anglemyer's arrest.
Arin Sodaro and Heather Howell, two female associates, were also taken into custody in connection with the DEA raids. On social media, Sodaro goes by the name Arin Auton. He is Lupo Nero Italian Cuisine's Operations Manager and Coordinator. From 2021 to 2022, she worked as a community health worker for the Community Action Committee of Pike County, and from 2004 to 2012, she was a US Army medic. Howell, who goes by the name Heather Burkitt on social media, is Anglemyer's restaurant's chef. She has worked as an employment specialist for the Scioto Trails Advancing Abilities Day program, according to her profile.
